Mahki
Masculine
Mahki is a name whose spelling is doing all the work. The sound is shared with Makai, Makhi, Makhai and Micah's shorter relatives, and the h in the middle is a written signal rather than a spoken one — which makes tracing its source unusually difficult.

Our story of Mahki
The inserted h is a specific device and it is worth separating from the others. A silent h at the end of a name marks the final vowel — Aliyah, Sarah, Niah. A silent h after a k makes a name look imported — Khalil, Khori. But an h in the middle of a name, between a consonant and a vowel, does something else again: it splits the syllables visually and slows the eye, so that Mahki reads as two clear beats where Maki would read as one word. American naming has used the device repeatedly since the 1990s: Mahki, Nahla, Jahmir, Kahlil, Sahara, Zahir. Some of those are genuine transliterations of Arabic words where the h is a real consonant, and some are English spellings borrowing the look. Mahki's peak in 2012 belongs to a period when both were happening at once, and the record cannot tell them apart.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No source establishes an etymology for this spelling. Hawaiian makai means toward the sea and is a genuine word, though it is a direction rather than a personal name and Hawaiian naming does not use it that way. Malachi, from Hebrew malʾāḵî, my messenger, is a settled name whose shortenings feed the same sound. Arabic and Swahili sources are also claimed and none is supported. What can be said is that the sound is well established in American naming and this spelling is one of at least five.
Pronouncing Mahki
muh-KY
Two syllables, stress on the second, the ending rhyming with sky. The h is silent. Some families say MAH-kee with the weight at the front and a long ee, and the spelling supports both.

The Terrick test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Mahki's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Terrick climbed just as high around 1981, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Terrick's path sketches the road Mahki is walking now.
Mahki sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- The spelling does not fix the pronunciation and bearers get two versions.
- Makai, Makhi, Mahki and Makhai are four spellings of one sound.
- None of the meanings claimed for it is supported by a source.
