The story of Macario
Makarios was a common Greek name and became a Christian one through several Egyptian desert monks, one of whom left a body of sayings still read. Latin took Macarius and Spanish made Macario. It was well used in Spain and Mexico through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and a Mexican short story and film of that title made it familiar. It reaches American records with Mexican and Filipino families.
