The story of Lizandro
Lysander commanded the Spartan fleet that destroyed the Athenian navy at Aegospotami in 405 BC and dictated the terms that ended the Peloponnesian War; his name survived in the classical tradition as an emblem of hard, effective generalship. Renaissance humanism put it back into circulation, and Shakespeare gave it to one of the lovers in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Spanish took it as Lisandro, and it has been steadily used in Central America, Argentina and Mexico ever since. American records show Lizandro from the 1980s with Central American migration, particularly Salvadoran and Honduran, and its peak in the early 2000s tracks that community's growth.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back.
