The story of Korri
Scandinavian settlement left personal names all over the north of England and the east of Ireland, and most of them survive only as surnames — the given names died and the family names outlived them by a thousand years. Corey is one of those. It returned as an American first name for boys in the twentieth century, and once it was popular the respellings began. The K and the final i are both doing a specific job here: in American naming of that period, substituting K for C and -i for -y was the standard way to mark a shared name as a girl's, and it worked without anyone having to explain it.

What it meant in Norse is not recovered — a connection to a word for a chosen one is proposed and thin.
