The story of Konrad
Konrad I was king of Germany in the tenth century and several later Konrads ruled as dukes and emperors. So many men bore it in the late Middle Ages that Kunz became a byword for an ordinary fellow. Konrad Zuse built the first programmable computer. It appears in American records in current use.

About 1 boy in 2,021 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 22,774 for Konrad itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Konrad's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jakie climbed just as high around 1935, and its whole arc is on record.
