The story of Rogan
Ó Ruadhagáin was a sept of Ulster, and English record-keeping reduced it to Rogan. Red hair was distinctive enough in Ireland to generate a whole family of names built on ruadh. Rogan crossed to America as a surname and entered given-name use recently, appearing in the registers in current use.
Meaning
descendant of the red-haired one
From the Irish Ó Ruadhagáin, a surname built on a diminutive of ruadh, 'red' — meaning red-haired. The same root gives Rory and the Scottish Roy. The formation is ordinary Irish and the reading undisputed.
