The story of Axell
Absalom rebelled against David, was caught by his hair in an oak, and killed against orders; David's lament is among the most-quoted verses in Samuel. Absalon, a twelfth-century archbishop, founded Copenhagen and made the name Danish. Axel became standard in Scandinavia, and Axell appears in American records in current use.
Meaning
father of peace
Through Absalom, from the Hebrew Avshalom — av, 'father', and shalom, 'peace'. Scandinavian contracted it to Absalon and then Axel. The Hebrew is ordinary and the meaning undisputed, and its irony against the bearer's story is entirely in the biblical text.

About 1 boy in 389 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 22,774 for Axell itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names.
