Keyana
Feminine
Keyana joins a Key- front to the -ana ending, and it belongs to a family that was very productive in American naming from the 1970s: Keyana, Kiana, Deyana, Tiana, Shayana. The front is a sound rather than a word, and the ending is the oldest feminine marker in the Indo-European languages. Its peak is 1995.

Our story of Keyana
The Ke- and Key- fronts had a specific decade. They appear in the American record from the early 1970s, peak in the 1980s and 1990s, and produce a large family: Keisha, Keyona, Keyana, Keandra, Keyshawn, Keon. What is unusual about this front, compared with Ja- or Za-, is that it carries a vowel of its own — the long e is stressed or half-stressed rather than reduced, which gives the resulting names a different rhythm. Ja- names lean forward onto the second syllable; Key- names hold weight at the front. That is a real phonetic difference and it explains why the two families sound distinct even when they take the same endings. Keyana and Jayana are built identically and do not sound alike, and the reason is entirely in the first vowel.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No documented source for the compound. The Key- front carries no lexical content in this position. The -ana ending is a genuine and ancient feminine terminal, but it means only 'feminine' and supplies nothing else. Two neighbors have real claims: Kiana is a Hawaiian form of Diana, and Kiana is also a place name in Alaska; neither reaches Keyana by a traceable route. The construction is describable and the meaning is not.

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Keyana went to 20 girls in 2025, but Keyanna and Keiana are the same name said out loud. Together the 3 spellings went to 42, which makes it the 918th most-given girls’ name of the year — 4,999 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 38,268 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 80,363 for Keyana itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Floria test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Keyana's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Floria climbed just as high around 1901, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Floria's path sketches the road Keyana is walking now.
Keyana sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
