The story of Juventino
Latin -inus is a workhorse suffix and it explains a large slice of the European name stock. Constantine is Constantinus, of the steadfast one; Augustine is Augustinus, of Augustus; Justin is Justinus, of Justus; Antoninus, of Antonius; Faustinus, of Faustus. The suffix turned an existing name or noun into a derived one, and it was used heavily in the later empire, exactly when Christian naming was forming, which is why the martyr lists are full of it. Spanish and Italian kept it alive and productive far longer than English did, giving Marcelino, Faustino, Celestino, Agustin and Juventino. In English the same suffix arrives already worn down to -ine, and speakers no longer feel it as a suffix at all: Justine and Caroline are simply names, not derived forms of anything.

The American peak is 1973.
