Jasmina
Feminine · “Persian "jasmine flower”
Jasmina is the South Slavic form of a Persian flower name, and the ending is the part worth noticing. Serbian, Croatian and Bosnian make women's names with -ina and -ana far more readily than English does, so Jasmin becomes Jasmina the way Zoran becomes Zorana and Milan becomes Milana — a live grammatical rule, not a decoration.

The story of Jasmina
Ottoman rule brought Turkish and, through it, Persian and Arabic vocabulary into the Balkans over four centuries, and given names came with it — Jasmina, Amina, Emina, Selma, Dzenana. In Bosnia these are ordinary Bosnian names rather than foreign ones. Serbian and Croatian use Jasmina too, often understood simply as the flower. The American 1987 peak reflects both Balkan immigration and the general rise of Jasmine in English, which was about to become a top-thirty American name; Jasmina rides the front of that wave with a Slavic ending.
Meaning
Persian "jasmine flower"
From Persian yāsamīn, the jasmine flower, borrowed into Arabic as yāsmīn and from there into Turkish, the Balkan languages, and eventually into French and English. The etymology is settled all the way back. The flower traveled the same route as the word, and the plant's English name and the given name are the same borrowing.

Pronouncing Jasmina
yahs-MEE-nah
In the Balkan languages the j is a consonantal y and the stress falls on the second syllable: yahs-MEE-nah. English speakers say jaz-MEE-nuh with an English J. Both are common in America and the spelling supports neither exclusively.

The Raymona test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jasmina's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Raymona climbed just as high around 1940, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Raymona's path sketches the road Jasmina is walking now.
Jasmina sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
