The story of Holdyn
The Catcher in the Rye was published in 1951 and Holden Caulfield became one of the most recognized characters in American fiction, but the name did not follow for decades: Holden is scarcely in the American records before the 1990s. It rises steeply from about 1995, alongside Hayden, Camden and Landon, and enters the top two hundred. That timing suggests the name was carried by the -den ending rather than by the novel, and the respellings arrived behind it: Holdyn, Holdin and Holdon all appear in the 2000s, with Holdyn peaking as recently as 2017.
Meaning
The deep or hollow valley
From Old English hol, hollow or deep, and denu, a valley — the same denu behind Dean, Ogden and Marsden. Holden is a place name in Lancashire and Yorkshire and a surname from it. The reading is settled. The y of Holdyn is an American respelling and carries no separate history.

The Waseem test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Holdyn's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Waseem climbed just as high around 1987, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Waseem's path sketches the road Holdyn is walking now.
Holdyn sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
