Dshawn
Masculine
Every written syllable in English has a vowel. That is a rule with almost no exceptions: the words without one are abbreviations, initialisms and a handful of Welsh borrowings like cwm. Dshawn breaks it. The prefix has been reduced to a single consonant, and the spelling does something English orthography otherwise never permits.

Our story of Dshawn
Our reading is that Dshawn is worth noticing precisely because it is a spelling English does not allow. The prefix in this family is pronounced with a reduced vowel, the schwa, which is the commonest sound in English and has no letter of its own. Writers can spell it with any vowel they like, and in this family they use a, e, ae and ay, all of which represent the same reduced sound. Dropping it altogether is a further step: it writes the syllable as a bare consonant and trusts the reader to supply the vowel, which any English speaker will do automatically because a d cannot begin a word before sh without one. So the spelling is unreadable by rule and perfectly readable in practice, which is a fair description of most respelling. It is also close to what the apostrophe forms did before databases removed them.

Dshawn is a reduced spelling of Deshawn or Dashawn, joining the D prefix to Shawn, an English respelling of the Irish Sean, ultimately Hebrew Yochanan, God is gracious. The prefix vowel is present in speech and absent in writing. Neither element carries meaning in the compound. It peaks in 1994.

The Calven test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Dshawn's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Calven climbed just as high around 1929, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Calven's path sketches the road Dshawn is walking now.
Dshawn sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
