Drevon
Masculine
American respellers add letters far more often than they remove them, but they almost never add a consonant in the middle of a word. Drevon does something rarer: it inserts an r right after the opening consonant of Devon, in the one position where English will accept it.

Our story of Drevon
Consonant insertion is constrained in a way that vowel respelling is not, and the constraint is the rules of the language rather than anyone's taste. English permits only a short list of consonant clusters at the beginning of a word: br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr, bl, cl, fl, gl, pl, sl, and a handful with s in front. Insert an r after the D of Devon and you get dr, which is on the list, so Drevon is sayable on sight. Insert it after the T of Tevin and you get tr, also fine. Try it after the M of Mevin or the N of Nevon and the result is unpronounceable, so nobody makes those names. This is why the invented part of the American name stock, for all its freedom with spelling, never violates the sound rules of English. The system rewrites the letters and leaves the phonology exactly as it found it.

Drevon has no inherited etymology. It is most likely a respelling of Devon with an inserted r, or a blend of Drew and Devon. Devon itself is genuine: the English county takes its name from the Dumnonii, a British tribe, and the county name became a surname and then an American given name. The peak of Drevon is 2000.

The Antawn test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Drevon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Antawn climbed just as high around 1981, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Antawn's path sketches the road Drevon is walking now.
