Dontez
Masculine
Z is the last letter of the alphabet because the Romans threw it out and then had to put it back. Appius Claudius removed it around 300 BC as useless for Latin; two centuries later Greek loanwords needed it again, and there was nowhere to put it but the end.

Our story of Dontez
Z had a place in the early Roman alphabet, inherited from the Greek zeta, in the position the alphabet still assigns to it in Greek, seventh. Latin had no use for the sound, and the censor Appius Claudius Caecus is credited with striking it out around 300 BC; the letter G was later invented to fill the gap it left. Then Rome conquered Greece, Greek loanwords poured in, and the sound came back with them. Z was readmitted along with Y, both purely for writing Greek words, and both were simply appended to the end of the existing list, which is why the Latin alphabet finishes with two letters that were readmitted immigrants. English inherited the arrangement. The practical consequence is that z is the rarest letter in English text, which makes a name ending in one unusually visible on a page.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Dontez has no inherited etymology. It joins a Don- opening, from Donald or Deon or nothing at all, to a -tez ending modeled on Spanish surnames such as Cortez and Martinez, where -ez is a genuine patronymic suffix meaning son of. The suffix carries none of that meaning here. The peak is 1991.

Two syllables, stress on the second. Spanish -ez names stress the syllable before it, so a Spanish speaker would say it differently.
