Derrius
Masculine
Naming styles have maps. The -ius names, Derrius, Demetrius, Dontavius, Martavius, are not spread evenly across the United States: they concentrate heavily in the South and in a band of cities that took part in the Great Migration, and a state-by-state breakdown shows it plainly. A name can be a regional dialect.

Our story of Derrius
Our reading is that regional concentration is one of the most useful and least discussed facts about American naming. National rank hides it completely: a name at rank 1858 nationally may be at rank 300 in Louisiana and absent from Vermont, and the national figure describes nobody. The -ius family is one of the clearer cases, with its center of gravity in the South and in the northern cities that Southern families moved to between 1915 and 1970. So are the Utah names, the Minnesota Scandinavian names, the Louisiana French names and the south Texas Spanish ones. What this means practically is that a family choosing a name from a national list is choosing from an average that exists nowhere, and that the same name will read as ordinary in one state and as unusual in the next.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Derrius is an American formation on the Der- stem, shared with Derrick and Deron, and the Latinate -ius ending drawn from names like Demetrius and Octavius. Neither carries an inherited meaning here. Derrius may also be read as a respelling of Darius, the Old Persian royal name, but the 1989 peak places it with the -ius coinage family rather than with the Persian name.

The Davied test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Derrius's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Davied climbed just as high around 1960, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Davied's path sketches the road Derrius is walking now.
Derrius sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
