The story of Calix
Callixtus I was a slave who managed a Roman cemetery, became bishop of Rome around 217, and was killed in a riot; the catacombs of San Callisto are named for him. Three later popes took the name. Calix appears in American records rising from the 2010s and is in current use.

cup, chalice
Two readings. The Latin calix, 'cup' or 'chalice', which gives the English chalice and the botanical calyx. Or a shortening of Callixtus, from the Greek kallistos, 'most beautiful'. The two are unrelated and both are attributed. Neither is dominant.

About 1 boy in 14,725 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 22,774 for Calix itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Raheim test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Calix's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Raheim climbed just as high around 1993, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Raheim's path sketches the road Calix is walking now.
Calix sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

- The two attributed origins are unrelated and neither is settled.
- Callix and Calyx are both in circulation.
- It is very new as a given name.
