Brylon
Masculine
Nylon, rayon, orlon, dacron, teflon. The -on ending was the trade-name suffix for synthetic materials through the middle of the twentieth century, invented by chemists who needed something that sounded scientific and was not a word. Brylon sits in that ending's shadow, and the resemblance is worth naming even though nothing connects them.

Our story of Brylon
Our reading is that Brylon shows how much of a name's feel comes from associations its makers never intended. The -on ending in American boys' names comes from a specific place: Dylan, Nolan, Harlan and Landon, all surname-derived, all popular from the 1990s. But the same string of letters ends an entire generation of industrial trade names, coined between the 1930s and the 1960s by companies that wanted a word suggesting a manufactured substance. Nylon was coined by DuPont in 1938 with no meaning at all, deliberately; rayon and orlon followed the pattern. That layer sits in the language whether or not anybody thinks about it, and it is part of why some coined names read as modern and slightly synthetic. The ending is the same shape doing two different jobs in two different vocabularies.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Brylon is an American formation joining a Bry- prefix, drawn from Bryan and Bryson, to the -lon ending that appears across Dylon, Jaylon and Kaylon. Neither element has an inherited meaning. The resemblance to the -on suffix of synthetic fibers is coincidental; the naming ending descends from Dylan and the surname layer. It peaks in 2011.

BRY-lon
Two syllables, stress on the first. The final syllable keeps a fuller vowel than the -en and -an endings do, which is what distinguishes Brylon from Brylen in careful speech.

The Baudelio test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Brylon's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Baudelio climbed just as high around 1929, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Baudelio's path sketches the road Brylon is walking now.
Brylon sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
