Angelic
Feminine · “Of or like an angel”
Angelic is an adjective, and that makes it rare. Word names are almost always nouns — Hope, Grace, Faith, Rain, Summer, Justice — because English nouns can stand alone as labels and adjectives cannot. Giving a child an adjective as a name is a genuinely unusual grammatical move.

The story of Angelic
Angela, Angelica, Angelina and Angel are all long-established given names from the same root. Angelic is different: it is the English adjective, taken directly. Its 1972 American peak sits in a decade when word names of several kinds were being given — Precious, Heavenly, Divine, Angelic — and it belongs with those rather than with Angela. Angelica, which looks similar, is a separate and much older name from Italian romance, and also the name of a plant.
Meaning
"Of or like an angel", from Greek angelos, "messenger"
From Greek angelos, a messenger, which was used in the Septuagint to translate the Hebrew malakh, also a messenger, and so acquired its theological sense. The English adjective angelic is a straightforward derivation. The etymology is settled at every step, and the original sense — messenger, not winged being — is worth knowing.

The Oneida test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Angelic's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Oneida climbed just as high around 1919, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Oneida's path sketches the road Angelic is walking now.
