Alura
Feminine
Alura sits one letter from an English word, and that is most of what it does: allure is attraction, the quality of drawing someone toward you, and Alura keeps the sound while dropping the second l and the word's status as a common noun.

Our story of Alura
Word-adjacent names are their own category and they behave differently from word names proper. Destiny, Serenity, Justice and Trinity are words used as names, and they carry the word's whole meaning with them. Alura, Amaya, Nevaeh and Adalee are one step further out: they sound like a word or a phrase without being one, so they carry the association without the commitment. That distance is the point. A daughter called Allure would be making a claim; a daughter called Alura sounds pleasant and claims nothing, and can honestly say the name is not the word. The 1999 peak sits in a period when this indirect method was displacing the direct one in American naming, and Alura is one of its neater results.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No source establishes an etymology. The resemblance to English allure — from Old French aleurier, to attract with a lure — is obvious and undocumented as a source. A separate Old English woman's name Ælfwaru or Æthelwaru is occasionally cited and appears in medieval records as Alura or Alware; nothing links it to the modern American name, which reappears independently in the twentieth century after a gap of six hundred years.
Pronouncing Alura
uh-LOOR-uh
Three syllables, stress in the middle, exactly like the English word allure with a vowel added. Some families say uh-LUR-uh with a shorter middle.

Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Arcadia test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Alura's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Arcadia climbed just as high around 1932, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Arcadia's path sketches the road Alura is walking now.
Alura sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
