Zuzanna
Feminine · “Hebrew "lily" or "lotus”
Zuzanna is the Polish form of Susanna, and the doubled letters are not decoration. Polish spelling is close to phonetic: a doubled n across a morpheme boundary is genuinely held longer, and the z's are two distinct sounds in Polish, which distinguishes z from ż and rz. The spelling is doing linguistic work an English respelling never does.

The story of Zuzanna
Susanna appears in the Book of Daniel in the Greek text — the story of Susanna and the elders — which made her a standard subject in European painting and kept the name in Christian use. Poland took the Latin Susanna and rendered it in Polish orthography as Zuzanna, with the initial S voiced to Z as Polish prefers before a vowel. It has been one of the most-used Polish girls' names of the last two decades, consistently in the national top ten. Its American appearances, peaking in 2009, come through Polish immigration rather than through any English fashion.
Meaning
Hebrew "lily" or "lotus"
From Hebrew shoshannah, generally read as a lily, though the word may originally have named the lotus or a broader class of flower — Egyptian sšn, the lotus, is a likely ultimate source. Greek Sousanna and Latin Susanna carried it into Europe. The etymology is settled at the level that matters: it is a flower name.

Pronouncing Zuzanna
zoo-ZAH-nah
Three syllables with the stress on the second — Polish stresses the penultimate syllable as a rule, which lands it there. Both z's are ordinary Z sounds. English speakers sometimes say ZOO-zah-nah with front stress, which Polish never does.

The Coreena test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Zuzanna's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Coreena climbed just as high around 1961, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Coreena's path sketches the road Zuzanna is walking now.
Zuzanna sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- It has a settled flower meaning and a biblical presence going back two thousand years.
- Zuzia and Zuzu are both warm, ready-made short forms.
- The two z's give it a distinctive look in a field of soft-consonant names.
- Susanna and Suzanne are the familiar English forms and will be assumed.
- The Polish stress rule is not obvious to English readers.
- Seven letters with two z's requires spelling out every time.
