The story of Yvette
Yves was a Breton and French name carried by a thirteenth-century lawyer-saint who became the patron of Brittany and of advocates. French formed Yvonne and Yvette as feminines, and both crossed into English-speaking use in the twentieth century when French names carried a particular polish. Yvette peaked in America in the mid-1960s, a decade behind Yvonne.
Meaning
yew
From the Germanic iv, 'yew', which French took as Yves and made feminine as Yvonne and Yvette. The yew was the bow-wood of medieval Europe and also the churchyard tree, so the word carried both martial and funerary weight. The -ette ending carries affection rather than meaning.

Yvette's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Olga climbed just as high around 1916, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Olga's path sketches the road Yvette is walking now.
