The story of Warrick
Old English borrowed very little from Latin before the conversion, and the words it did take are practical: wic, a settlement; ceaster, a fort, giving Chester and Lancaster; straet, a paved road; and a handful of trade terms. Wic is the most productive of them, and it names market and trading places across England. Warwick gave a great earldom, and Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, is the Kingmaker of the Wars of the Roses. The surname crossed to America, and Warrick with the doubled r is an American respelling that also matches an English surname of its own; its best year is 1966.
Meaning
dwellings by the weir
Warwick is generally read as Old English wering, a weir or dam, plus wic, a dwelling or settlement, from Latin vicus. The wic element is one of the oldest Latin borrowings in English, taken during or shortly after the Roman occupation, and it appears in dozens of English place names. The doubled r of this spelling is a modern respelling.

Warrick's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Renald climbed just as high around 1924, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Renald's path sketches the road Warrick is walking now.
