The story of Fuad
Classical Arabic distinguishes the parts of the inner life more finely than English does, and the vocabulary is theological as much as anatomical: qalb, fu'ad, sadr, nafs and ruh all name aspects of a person, and the Quran uses them precisely. Fu'ad appears in that register. As a personal name it has been used across the Arab world for centuries and was carried by Fuad I, the first king of modern Egypt, who reigned from 1922. It reached United States records with Arab migration, particularly from Egypt, Lebanon and Yemen, and had its best year in 1996.
Meaning
heart, the inner seat of feeling
Arabic fu'ad, from a root covering being kindled or stirred. It is distinguished in Arabic usage from qalb, the heart that turns, and from sadr, the breast; fu'ad names the heart as the organ of perception and emotion. The name properly contains a hamza, a glottal stop between the vowels, which English transliteration drops.

The Larell test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Fuad's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Larell climbed just as high around 1936, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Larell's path sketches the road Fuad is walking now.
Fuad sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
