The story of Tricia
Patricia was rare in English until the twentieth century, when it rose extremely fast and generated short forms as it went: Pat and Patty from the front, Tricia and Trish from the back. The back-half forms were the later arrivals and read as more modern for that reason. Tricia was registered as a legal name from the 1950s and peaked in the early 1970s, at which point Patricia itself was still in the American top twenty.
Meaning
noble, patrician
Through Patricia, from the Latin patricius, 'nobleman' — a member of the patrician order of Rome, as opposed to the plebeians. It was a class term before it was a name, and Patrick is the masculine of exactly the same word.

The Bobbie test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Tricia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Bobbie climbed just as high around 1934, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Bobbie's path sketches the road Tricia is walking now.
Tricia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Patricia stands behind it as a formal form with a clear Roman meaning.
- The back-half derivation gives it a completely different sound from the other short forms.
- Trish is available as a brisk, adult-sounding alternative.
- The spelling does not obviously produce the sound — Trisha exists precisely because of that.
- As a standalone name it stays informal unless Patricia is on the certificate.
