Sarabeth
Feminine · “princess”
Sarabeth is two of the oldest names in English run into one word. Sarah is a Hebrew name that the Book of Genesis actually changes on the page — she begins as Sarai and God renames her — and Beth is the working end of Elizabeth. Both are so familiar that the compound needs no explaining at all.

The story of Sarabeth
American naming has three great second halves — Anne, Lou and Beth — and they have been attached to almost every women's first name in the language. Beth is the youngest of the three as an independent element, having spent centuries as a clipping of Elizabeth before it began appearing as the back of Mary Beth, Anna Beth, Sara Beth and eventually Sarabeth. Writing the two names closed up as a single word is the American step; the older style was two words, and the middle style was a hyphen. Closing it makes the whole thing one legal given name rather than a first and a middle.
Meaning
princess; noblewoman
Hebrew sarah means a princess or a noblewoman, from a root about ruling. The renaming in Genesis is one of very few places where a text records a name being changed and gives a reason: Sarai becomes Sarah at the same moment Abram becomes Abraham, as part of a covenant. What Sarai meant before that is less clear. The Beth half brings Elizabeth's meaning along, which is itself an old argument about oaths and abundance, so the compound carries one settled sense and one contested one.

SAIR-uh-beth, three syllables, main stress at the front and a lighter one at the end. There is no pause in the middle — writing it as one word is exactly what says so, and the closed spelling is the only thing that distinguishes it from a first name and a middle.

The Kimie test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Sarabeth's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Kimie climbed just as high around 1922, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Kimie's path sketches the road Sarabeth is walking now.
Sarabeth sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- Both halves are among the most familiar names in English, so nothing needs explaining.
- It gives two complete short forms that sound nothing alike.
- As one word it works as a single given name on any form, which a two-word double name does not always.
- It will be split into two words or hyphenated by people and by databases alike, and often by both.
- Sara Beth, Sarabeth and Sarah Beth are all in use, and the h and the space each have to be given separately.
- The compound structure places the name in a particular American style, and it reads as a Southern one to many people.
