The story of Sadia
The root s-ʿ-d runs through Arabic in words for good fortune, and Arab astronomers used it in a whole set of star names — Sadalmelik, Sadalsuud, Sadachbia — several of which are still the official names of stars in Aquarius. Sadia is the feminine adjective and is used across the Arab world and South Asia, reaching American and British records with Pakistani and Bangladeshi families.
Meaning
fortunate, happy
From an Arabic root meaning to be fortunate or blessed; saad is good fortune and saeed a happy or fortunate man. The same root gives the star name Sadalsuud and a great many personal names.

The SSA counts spellings, not names. Sadia went to 33 girls in 2025, but Sadiya, Saadia and Saadiya and the rest below are the same name said out loud. Together the 5 spellings went to 115, which makes it the 845th most-given girls’ name of the year — 3,420 places above the chart.
About 1 girl in 13,976 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 48,705 for Sadia itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Samuella test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Sadia's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Samuella climbed just as high around 1930, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Samuella's path sketches the road Sadia is walking now.
Sadia sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
