Our story of Rumaldo
Romuald was an Italian nobleman who became a monk after watching his father kill a man in a duel, and he spent decades founding and reforming houses across Italy. His lasting invention is at Camaldoli in the Tuscan hills: a monastery where the monks live not in a shared dormitory but in individual cottages, each with its own garden and wall, coming together for services and otherwise keeping silence. It is a hermitage organized as a community, which was a genuine structural innovation, and the arrangement has survived a thousand years essentially unchanged. The order is small and still there. The cottages are still separate.

Not established
The Germanic name behind it joins an element meaning glory or fame to one meaning rule, and that reading is reasonably secure for Romuald. Whether this spelling descends from it or was arrived at separately in Spanish is not recorded.

Fashion outlook
Rumaldo sits outside the current charts, and that is its own kind of answer: naming cycles can only date the names they carried up. A name this rare has no decade stamped on it — it cannot go out of fashion, because it was never in.

The trade-off
- Aldo comes off the back of it as a short form and is a complete name on its own.
- Three open syllables with nothing difficult in them work in English and Spanish alike.
- It is genuinely rare in the United States while being entirely ordinary elsewhere.
- Romualdo is the standard Spanish spelling, so this version will be adjusted by Spanish speakers.
- English readers will guess the stress wrong on first sight, and the correction becomes routine.
- No origin is documented for this exact form, so the meaning question belongs to the longer name.
