The story of Roel
The historical ambush at Roncesvalles was by Basques; the Song of Roland, written around 1100, made the attackers Muslims and Roland a martyr — one of the more consequential rewritings in European literature. Dutch shortens Roeland to Roel. It appears in American records in current use.

The Levie test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Roel's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Levie climbed just as high around 1908, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Levie's path sketches the road Roel is walking now.
Roel sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
