The story of Rithvik
The Vedic sacrifice required specialists, and the texts name them precisely: the hotṛ who recited, the udgātṛ who sang, the adhvaryu who performed the physical acts, the brahman who supervised. Ṛtvij is the collective term for all of them, the priest whose work is tied to the calendar. The word survived the ritual system that produced it and became a personal name in modern India, used particularly in Telugu- and Kannada-speaking families and in Maharashtra. It appears in American records from the 1990s with Indian professional migration, and its small peak around 2000 belongs to that arrival rather than to any older American presence.
Meaning
Priest who officiates at the seasonal sacrifice
From Sanskrit ṛtvij, a compound of ṛtu, season or fixed time, and the root yaj, to sacrifice or worship. The ṛtvij were the sixteen officiating priests of the Vedic ritual. Rithvik and Ritvik are transliterations of the same word; the extra h is an English spelling habit, not a Sanskrit distinction.

RITH-vik
Two syllables, stress on the first. The Sanskrit ṛ is a vowel r, so a careful saying is closer to RIT-vij; the American form regularises it to a plain short i and a hard k.

The Enrrique test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rithvik's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Enrrique climbed just as high around 1927, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Enrrique's path sketches the road Rithvik is walking now.
