The story of Rishika
The Rigveda is a collection of over a thousand hymns, composed probably between 1500 and 1000 BC and transmitted orally with extraordinary fidelity for millennia before being written down. Its hymns carry attributions, and among the named composers are women. Lopamudra's hymn is a dialogue with her husband in which she argues, successfully, that he should end his asceticism. Ghosha, described as suffering from a skin disease that kept her unmarried, addresses the twin physician gods. Apala's hymn concerns a cure. Vishvavara and Romasha are also named. What this establishes is not a picture of general equality, which the wider evidence does not support, but a specific and documented fact: the oldest text in an Indo-European language names women among its authors, and the tradition preserved their names for three thousand years.
