Rayquan
Masculine
The real innovation in Rayquan is not the spelling — it is the stress. English surnames and traditional given names put the stress at the front: RAY-mond, RAY-burn. Rayquan moves it to the back, ray-QUAN, and that back-stress is what makes the whole family of -quan names sound modern.

Our story of Rayquan
Stress is the part of a name that people copy without noticing they are copying it. English names built from Germanic roots are stressed at the front — RICH-ard, ED-ward, RAY-mond — because Germanic word stress falls on the first syllable and the second element is a suffix. The American names built in the 1980s and 1990s do the opposite: they put a light, unstressed prefix in front and a heavy closed syllable behind it, so the weight lands at the end. Ray-QUAN, Da-QUAN, Jer-MAINE, Ty-RONE. The heavy final syllable is doing the work, and the prefix is a run-up to it. That is a genuine structural difference from the older stock, and it is audible before a single letter is read, which is why the family sounds coherent even when the spellings are all different.
Meaningnot established
Not established
No inherited meaning. Ray is an English name in its own right, from Raymond; -quan is a created ending with no source language. Notably, no English word ends in q followed by a vowel, which means the ending could not have been borrowed from the existing English vocabulary — it had to be made. Claims that Rayquan means anything in particular are inventions.

The Fransisco test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Rayquan's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Fransisco climbed just as high around 1981, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Fransisco's path sketches the road Rayquan is walking now.
Rayquan sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
