wealth, inheritance
Through Otis and Otto, from the Germanic aud, 'wealth' or 'inherited property'. Otis arose as an English surname from the medieval given name Ode or Odo, itself from the same root. A second account connects it to the Greek otos, 'keen of hearing', which is not well supported.
