The story of Nathania
Hebrew has a letter, tav, which in some positions was pronounced as a soft sound the Greeks wrote with theta. Greek and Latin translators used th to represent it, and English inherited the convention wholesale, which is why we write Nathan, Nathaniel, Bethany, Esther, Thomas and Beth with an h that the Hebrew does not require. English readers, having no rule telling them the h is a convention, simply said the sound their own spelling implied, and the th became real. The result is a set of biblical names that no Hebrew speaker would recognize from their sound. The alternative spelling Natania keeps the plain t and is closer to the original; the two forms sit side by side in the American records, one following Greek habit and one following the Hebrew.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Nathania's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Esthela climbed just as high around 1952, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Esthela's path sketches the road Nathania is walking now.
