The story of Myron
Myron of Eleutherae was a fifth-century BC sculptor whose Discobolus survives in Roman copies and is among the most reproduced images from antiquity. The name was also carried by an early martyr, which kept it in Greek Christian use. It reached America in the nineteenth century, taken up particularly by Jewish and Greek-American families, and peaked around 1920.
Meaning
myrrh, sweet oil
From the Greek myron, 'sweet oil' or 'perfume', related to myrrha, the resin. Myrrh was one of the most valuable trade goods of the ancient world — one of the three gifts in Matthew — and the word carried that weight. The meaning is transparent.

About 1 boy in 14,475 born in 2025 was given one of these spellings — against 1 in 16,746 for Myron itself.
Spellings are grouped by a fixed rule that folds interchangeable English spellings of one sound (ck/k, ph/f, x/ks, a non-initial y for i) and keeps vowels apart, so Sean and Shawn stay separate names. It errs towards splitting: a family here is never larger than the truth. SSA national data, 2025. Method

The Tommie test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Myron's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Tommie climbed just as high around 1909, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Tommie's path sketches the road Myron is walking now.
