The story of Mikenna
Kenneth MacAlpin, who died around 858 and is traditionally counted the first king of the Scots, was Cinaed mac Ailpin, and his name is generally read as born of fire. A different Gaelic name, Coinneach, meaning comely or handsome, belonged to saints and clan founders and gave the surname Mackenzie. When English speakers began writing Gaelic names down, both were rendered Kenneth, and the distinction disappeared from the record. The surname Mac Cionaodha, from the first of the two, became McKenna, one of the large Ulster surnames, and American parents took it as a girl's name in the 1990s. Mikenna is one of the respellings, and by that point the patronymic particle has become an unstressed syllable that carries no meaning at all.

Gaelic Cinaed, born of fire
Mikenna is an American respelling of McKenna, from the Irish surname Mac Cionaodha, son of Cionaodh, which is the Irish form of the name also written Cinaed. The Scottish Coinneach, meaning comely, is a separate name that English also rendered as Kenneth. The peak of this spelling is 2003.
