This spelling takes the front of one and the back of the other, which is why it looks familiar and matches nothing. It is given almost entirely to girls, and it is on record for boys.

The story of Mikelle
French built Michelle from Michel in the ordinary way, and it crossed to English-speaking countries in the twentieth century and became very widely used. Mikayla arrived later and from a different direction, assembled on the Michaela sound with American spelling conventions. Once both were common, the parts became interchangeable: Mik-, Mich-, Mick- at the front, -elle, -ayla, -aela at the back, and families chose one of each. Mikelle is one of the combinations that resulted. It is a regular product of a system rather than a corruption of either parent.
Meaning
who is like God?
Every name in this family descends from Michael, a Hebrew rhetorical question. Michelle is the French feminine, formed from Michel by adding the ending French uses for exactly that — the same one that gives Gabrielle and Danielle. Mikelle inherits the meaning intact through whichever parent applies. The k contributes nothing to the sense; it replaces a ch that was never said as anything but a k in English anyway.

Pronouncing Mikelle
mih-KELL
mih-KELL, two syllables, stress at the back, the -elle ending said as a single crisp syllable exactly as in Michelle. Some read it as three, mih-KELL-ee, following names like Kelley; the spelling does not invite that but the neighborhood does.

The Larose test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Mikelle's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Larose climbed just as high around 1939, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Larose's path sketches the road Mikelle is walking now.
Mikelle sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- The k removes any doubt about the opening consonant, which the ch spelling leaves to convention.
- It descends from a very well documented name and inherits the whole history.
- The stress at the end gives it a clean finish against a front-stressed surname.
- Michelle is the standard spelling and this one will be corrected toward it constantly.
- It matches neither parent name exactly, so it is misheard as Michelle and misspelled as Mikayla in roughly equal measure.
- This spelling is on record for boys, though rarely, so a boy carrying it will be read as a girl on paper.
