The story of Kodie
Ó Cuidighthigh belonged to families in Kilkenny and the Irish midlands, and the surname anglicized as Cody, Coady and Codey. It reached America with Irish emigration and became widely visible in the nineteenth century through a showman and buffalo hunter whose Wild West show toured the world. Cody became a common American boys' first name in the twentieth century, and the respellings — Kody, Kodie, Codie, Coby — arrived with the usual sorting of spellings by sex.
