The story of Kimmie
Three unrelated Kims share the spelling. The Korean one is a surname of enormous antiquity, borne by the royal houses of Silla and Gaya and written with the character meaning gold, and it is carried by roughly a fifth of the population of both Koreas. The English one is a clipping of Kimberly, which became an independent name in the 1940s and 1950s. In between sits Kipling's Kim, published in 1901, whose hero is a boy, Kimball O'Hara, an Irish orphan in Lahore; that book kept the name faintly male in English for a generation. Kimmie is the American diminutive of the second of the three, formed with the -ie ending that English borrowed from Scots and now applies to almost anything.

Old English, Cyneburg's clearing
Kimmie is a diminutive of Kim, itself a clip of Kimberly, from the English place name. The Korean surname Kim, written with the Chinese character for gold, is entirely unrelated, as is the male name Kim in Kipling's 1901 novel, where it is short for Kimball. The peak of this spelling is 1959.

Kimmie's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Annita climbed just as high around 1941, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Annita's path sketches the road Kimmie is walking now.
