The story of Kathrine

Scandinavian and German use produced Kathrine and Katrine, and emigration brought them to America, where Kathrine peaked around 1918.

pure
The earliest form is the Greek Aikaterine, of unrecovered origin and possibly linked to Hecate. The Greek katharos, 'pure', was attached later and produced the th in the English spelling. The 'pure' reading is therefore a reinterpretation, though a very old and settled one.
