Acts mentions him several times, and he travels with Paul and Barnabas until an argument sends him back; Peter's letter calls him a son. Early tradition made him Peter's interpreter in Rome and the author of the Gospel of Mark, and the Coptic church counts him as its founder in Alexandria.
