Jenai
Feminine
English has almost no native word ending in ai. The digraph appears in the middle of words constantly, in rain, plain and maid, and at the end of almost nothing except borrowings: bonsai, samurai, chai. A name ending in it is using a shape English does not otherwise have.

Our story of Jenai
Our reading is that the final -ai in this family is filling a gap in English orthography rather than borrowing from anywhere. English needs a way to write a stressed final long a and has no good one: the -ay of today and delay is the usual choice, the -ae of sundae and algae is rare and mostly Latin, and the -ai of chai and bonsai is borrowed. All three appear in this family of names, and the choice between Jenay, Jenae and Jenai is a choice between three imperfect solutions to one problem. French solves it with an accent, Spanish with a stress rule, and English with nothing, which is why the names in this group have more spellings than almost any others. The sound itself is completely stable; only the writing is unsettled, and that is a fact about the alphabet rather than about the names.

The Nickey test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jenai's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Nickey climbed just as high around 1957, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Nickey's path sketches the road Jenai is walking now.
Jenai sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
