The story of Jarius
Jairus is the synagogue leader who begs Jesus to come to his dying daughter, and the girl is raised in one of the best-known healing narratives in the gospels; the Hebrew name behind it, Jair, belongs to a judge of Israel in the book of Judges. That gives the name a solid biblical footing. Its American use, however, is concentrated in the 1980s and 1990s, and it moves in step with Darius, which peaked in the same decades, rather than with the biblical revival names. The peak in 1999 sits at the end of that run.

He will enlighten, if from Jairus
Jairus in the gospels of Mark and Luke represents Hebrew Yāʾîr, from ʾôr, to give light, generally read as he will enlighten or he shines. Whether the American Jarius descends from that name or belongs to the separate -ius family — Darius, Tyrius, Marius, Demarius — is not determinable; the spellings Jairus, Jarius and Jarrius all appear in the records and the vowels move freely between them.

Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jarius's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Vijay climbed just as high around 1982, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Vijay's path sketches the road Jarius is walking now.
