Jameria
Feminine
American girls' names have grown by about a syllable in fifty years and boys' names have not. In 1970 the top girls' names were mostly two syllables; today three and four are ordinary. Jameria has four. The lengthening is measurable, it is one-sided, and nobody has fully explained it.

Our story of Jameria
Our reading is that the syllable count of American names has changed in a way worth measuring. Girls' names have been getting longer since roughly the 1960s: the modal length moved from two syllables to three, four-syllable names became ordinary, and endings that add a syllable, -ia, -iyah, -ana, -elle, have all become productive. Boys' names have stayed at two syllables or dropped to one, with the surname fashion favoring short, hard-edged forms: Jack, Cole, Blake, Chase, Grant. So the two columns have moved in opposite directions, and a class list from 2010 has girls' names about a syllable longer than the boys'. Various explanations have been offered, none conclusive, but the fact itself is not in dispute and it is visible in any decade-by-decade comparison of the top hundred.
Meaningnot established
Not established
Jameria is an American formation joining the Ja- prefix to a stem and the -ia ending. Neither element carries an inherited meaning. The -ia ending is the Latin suffix that forms abstract nouns, place names and feminines, and in American coinage it functions purely as a feminine marker. It peaks in 2006.

The Jinny test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Jameria's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Jinny climbed just as high around 1948, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Jinny's path sketches the road Jameria is walking now.
Jameria sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
