Ishita
Feminine · “Sanskrit "one who possesses”
Ishita comes from a Sanskrit root about mastery. Īś means to own, to rule, to have power over — the same root behind Ishvara, the lord, and Ishana, an epithet of Shiva. Ishita is the feminine derivative, one who possesses or one who desires, and it is a name about capability rather than appearance.

The story of Ishita
Ishitva is listed among the ashta siddhi, the eight attainments of yogic tradition, and specifically names lordship or the power of command — which gives the name a technical as well as a general sense. As a given name it is modern rather than classical, part of the broad twentieth-century Indian practice of forming women's names from Sanskrit roots. It is common across North India and Bengal. Its 2010 American peak reflects the second generation of post-1965 South Asian immigration choosing Sanskrit names over anglicized ones.
Meaningscholars disagree
Sanskrit "one who possesses, mastery"; also read as "desiring"
Two readings circulate and both are defensible. From īś, to rule or own, Ishita is one who has mastery, and ishitva is a Sanskrit term for one of the eight supernatural powers, the ability to command. From iṣ, to wish or desire, it would mean desired or one who desires. The two roots are distinct in Sanskrit but the derived forms converge in the modern name.

The Nadege test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Ishita's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Nadege climbed just as high around 1986, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Nadege's path sketches the road Ishita is walking now.
