Heavenlee

The story of Heavenlee
Norse and English were close enough for their speakers to understand each other roughly, and the Danelaw produced a great deal of borrowing in ordinary vocabulary: they, them, their, egg, knife, window, skin, skirt and sky are all Norse. When two words with overlapping senses survive, they usually divide the work, and that is what happened here. Sky, which in Old Norse meant a cloud, took over the physical sense, and heaven kept the religious one, so English now has a word for the thing above us and a separate word for what it stands for. Most languages make do with one. Heavenlee attaches the modern name suffix to the older word, and its peak in 2002 places it a dozen years before the -leigh spelling of the same name.
Meaning
Old English heofon, the sky or the heavens
From Old English heofon, which meant the visible sky as well as the dwelling of God, with an -lee ending taken from the modern name suffix. English later borrowed sky from Old Norse, which narrowed heaven to its religious sense. This spelling peaks in 2002.
