The story of Graceyn
Charis in Greek covers favor, kindness, gratitude and the beauty that attracts favor, and the Charites were the three Graces. Christian Greek used it for God's unearned favor, and Jerome rendered it gratia, which English took as grace. The derived charisma stayed a technical theological term for a spiritual gift until Max Weber borrowed it for political sociology in 1922, after which it drifted into ordinary speech meaning personal magnetism. So one Greek noun ended up as an abstract theological principle in one line and a compliment about someone's presence in another, and English has both without connecting them. Graceyn peaks in 2017.
Meaning
Latin "grace, favor", with a modern ending
Grace is from Latin gratia, favor, which the Vulgate used to translate Greek charis. The same Greek word gives charisma, a gift, and eucharist, thanksgiving. The -yn ending is the American suffix from Lynn and carries no meaning. Graceyn is a recent American formation applying a suffix to a virtue name.
