Freida
Feminine · “peace”
German has a rule that English does not: ie says a long e and ei says a long i, and the second letter of the pair is the one you hear. Frieda follows it. Freida breaks it, which means the German word for peace has been spelled here by somebody who did not know the rule.

The story of Freida
Germanic naming built men's and women's names by combining elements, and frid was one of the most-used, appearing in hundreds of medieval compounds. By the nineteenth century German families were regularly registering the short form on its own, and Frieda traveled to America with the vast German migration of that century. What happened to the spelling in America is a small piece of linguistic history: English speakers had no ie and ei rule of their own, having lost it entirely to the great vowel shift and to French borrowings, so the two spellings were treated as interchangeable and both appear in the same families. Freida's best American year is 1891, and the correctly spelled Frieda ran alongside it throughout.
Meaning
peace
From the Germanic element frid or fried, peace, the same element in Friedrich, Wilfred, Godfrey and Siegfried. Frieda is either a short form of one of the longer names, Friederike and Elfriede among them, or the element used on its own. The ei spelling of this form does not change the meaning; it changes only which of the two vowels a German reader would try to say.
