Our story of Fanta
Ours, offered as ours. Fanta is one of the standard women's names of the Mande-speaking world — Mali, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Senegal — where it has been in use far longer than the drink has existed. The drink was invented in Germany in 1940 as a substitute product and named from the word for imagination. The collision is complete coincidence, and only English speakers experience it as one.
Meaningscholars disagree
beautiful day; or fair-skinned

The Bonnita test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Fanta's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Bonnita climbed just as high around 1944, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Bonnita's path sketches the road Fanta is walking now.
Fanta sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.
