Evia

The -ia ending is the oldest name suffix still in ordinary American use. It is the Latin and Greek feminine ending, on Julia, Claudia, Sophia and Olivia, and it has been doing the same job for well over two thousand years. Evia is Eve with that ending attached.

The story of Evia
Compare the endings and you can date a name. The -ia suffix is classical, borrowed whole from Latin, and it has never gone out of use in Europe; Julia and Sophia are unbroken from antiquity. The -iah ending that looks similar is not related at all: it is the Hebrew divine name Yah, the same element in Jeremiah, Isaiah and Obadiah, and its modern American use in Aaliyah and Maliyah comes from an entirely different direction. The -ea ending is a third thing, mostly English respelling. So a name in -ia is usually old or built to look old, a name in -iah is usually Biblical or built on a Biblical model, and a name in -ea is usually modern. Evia belongs to the first group, formed at a time when adding -ia to a short name was the standard way of making it sound formal enough for a birth certificate.

Hebrew Chavah, to live or to breathe
Evia is most likely a Latinate extension of Eve or Eva, from Hebrew Chavah, connected by Genesis itself to the root for living. Genesis 3:20 gives the explanation as a wordplay rather than an etymology, which is how the Bible usually handles names. A separate source is possible: Evia is the modern Greek name of the island of Euboea, the second largest in Greece. The 1903 American peak sits in a period of Latinate extensions rather than Greek place names, which favors the first reading.
