The story of Enrico
Heinrich was the name of German emperors and English kings and became one of the standard European men's names. Italy gives Enrico, and two bearers made it internationally known — the tenor Enrico Caruso, whose recordings did as much as anything to establish the gramophone, and Enrico Fermi, who built the first nuclear reactor under a Chicago squash court. It reaches American records with Italian emigration.
Meaning
home ruler
From Germanic haim, a home or estate, and ric, a ruler; Heinrich gave French Henri, English Henry and Italian Enrico. The first element means an enclosed holding rather than a house.

The Cleon test
Every popular name lives one long story — a climb, a peak, a slow settling back. Enrico's later chapters haven't been written yet, so we borrowed them: Cleon climbed just as high around 1903, and its whole arc is on record. Line the two peaks up, and Cleon's path sketches the road Enrico is walking now.
Enrico sits in the calm middle of the cycle — neither chasing a wave nor sliding off one. Middle-of-the-cycle names age slowly and predictably.

The trade-off
- A settled Germanic meaning with a very deep European record.
- Rico is a complete short form in current use.
- Two genuinely remarkable modern bearers behind it.
- Henry is the English form and enormously more common in America.
- Six letters and three syllables is manageable but not short.
- It reads as strongly Italian, which is usually the intention.
